Version 2.17 is for the live/modern build servers Antigua & Roberts. Version 2.10 is for the Legacy build server. The Legacy build of the game is from 2012.
The v2.10 Legacy server require a subscription. v2.17 servers Antigua & Roberts are Free to play).
The installer will unpack the Game Launcher, install the required dependencies, then start the launcher which will download the game files.
The Launcher also handles updates for the game, you should always launch the game via the Launcher.
In case you do not run the launcher every time: most often you will see no servers on the login screen when a new update is released. That is however dependent on the changes in the patch, in some cases you can still access the servers using the earlier version.
in case you see no servers, make you sure have the latest patch - run the Launcher.
For returning Captains - do not install on top of 2.15.x or earlier builds - it will not work. There is no migration to 2.17.x - a full download is required for the first install.
